LIGHT & SHADOW: A Film and Video Lighting Workshop (Advanced)

I believe in America, a voice in the darkness says. The scene fades in to a single light shining onto the forehead of a balding man. Everything else is hidden within shadows. As the camera slowly pulls back, we see a light shine on the imposing silhouette of Marlon Brando. Thus starts the immortal beginning of The Godfather.

Legendary cinematographer Gordon Willis and other great filmmakers understand not only how to best light a set, but how light affects the mood of a scene and the emotions of an actor.

Light & Shadow: a Film and Video Lighting Workshop is a one-weekend, intensive, hands-on workshop for independent filmmakers and students who want to learn fast, simple and effective lighting styles without a big-studio budget. It focuses on the philosophy that SHADOW is just as, if not more, important to the depth and atmosphere of a scene than LIGHT.
It concentrates on easily applied skills to do a lighting set-up.

Participants will quickly become adept at lighting real-world situations through demonstrations, Q&A's, and hands-on experience. You will learn to create polished and dynamic lighting that can set mood and capture an audience.

In this Advanced Workshop, we’ll explore topics such as Creating Mood, Depth and Dimension, Natural/Source Lighting, 10 Ways to Light 1 Actor/Scene, and many more. We’ll have exercises in Lighting for Movements, Face to Face Interviews, and Simulating Scenes from Movies. So expect lots of hands-on practice, problem-solving tips and tricks, and lively discussions.
It will be conducted at Factory Studios (www.factorybrooklyn.com), a beautiful spacious and professional soundstage!
