We are back
for May with a great gaming focused program that I'm sure will be of interest to a
great many of you. It's all happening Thursday May 8th taking place at Duarte Design.
Doors open at 7:00 pm with the meeting starting at 7:30. Everyone is welcome to come out for this, modo user or not. If you'd like to bring some snacks or soft drinks to the
meeting to share with your fellow modonauts, I'm sure it would be appreciated. Please come prepared with any projects you wish to share with the group. Stills, animations,
whatever you can grab, we'll try our best accommodate.
Duarte Design, is located at 161 E Evelyn Ave in Mountain View.
Our first two very special guests for this months presentation come to us from EA Red-
wood Shores. We have lead environmental artist Cristian St.Aubyn, an architect turned
3D game artist, Cristian has worked on environments and characters for a variety of
titles including, 'Knockout Kings', 'Freekstyle', 'Gretzky NHL' and 'MySims' for Wii.
We also have famed bay area artist Terry Smith, not only was he art director for the
hit title 'God of War', but he is also responsible for many of the bay areas biggest sports
team logos including the Sharks! He's currently working on 'MySims' for Wii. Cristian
and Terry together will be talking about what it's like to work in games today and what
it takes to be a game artist. They'll be showing stuff they've worked on and will try to
answer your questions regarding the art and business of games.
We also are fortunate enough this month to have BAMUGs own Mike Hulme, a game
industry veteran who has worked previously at 3DO, Namco, Universal Interactive
and EA and has shipped more game titles than we have space to list here. Mike will be
going over the illusive art of UV mapping and take us all through the ins and out of
making an effective and efficient UV map using modos best in class UV mapping tools.
Hopefully you haven't forgotten about our T-Shirt design project where you could win
a full copy of Dan Ablan's modo 301 Signature Courseware. Because of the April
cancellation, we moved the contest deadline to May, so bring your entries and well be
announcing the winner at our June meeting. If you have forgotten, you can grab the entry
form here. There's still time! I hope to see everyone there this month, please feel free to
forward on this message to any friends or colleagues you think may be interested in
attending. Thanks!
