An intensive workshop in editing techniques and aesthetics using Final Cut Pro
Knowing how to use digital editing software is just one component of being a good editor. Using the software to create a compelling story is really what editing is all about. This class, designed as a follow-up course to Final Cut Pro 101, offers students an opportunity to spend a week applying their technical understanding of the software and learning how to become better storytellers through editing. There is minimal technical instruction on the software; instead, students edit dramatic scenes, commercials, or documentary shorts with the guidance of the instructor and collaborative critique from classmates. The class views and analyzes various film and television productions to learn about story structure, technique and aesthetic. Timing, pace, and editing for genre are explored with many hands-on opportunities to work on scenes. This class is for students who are proficient with Final Cut Pro and want to improve their storytelling skills.
